I am very sorry for the unexpected loss of a loved one. I am very familiar with losing someone so close and the pain never fully disapears but I promise it does get easier you just have to remember everything happens for a reason and that heaven was blessed with another angel, one that will always be there watching over you. With deepest sympathy

Dear Chris & family of Emma~
I am so sorry to hear about your sad loss.
I had the pleasure of meeting Chris & Emma last year through a friend, Ed Pitt whom bought a home from them in Grantham Park. I was touched by the genuine kindness & sweet spirit in both of them. Emma was a sweet, genuine Southern Belle & Chris, quite the gentleman. Emma loved checking on the deco progress of the home & always added a little flair of suggestions! Chris would stop & chat while driving through the neighborhood on the golf cart! Although only chatting a few times, I feel privileged to have had the opportunity.
Godspeed, Chris.
Sincerely,
Carol

I have known Emma since March 1, 1990 when I came to work as her secretary at the Fayette County Extension Service. She was the sunshine in our office. You could never be in a bad mood around Emma; her enthusiasm for life was contagious.
She had no children of her own, but there are several hundred
4-H’ers that were shaped and inspired by her presence. Two of those were my own children. She took them to every camp that 4-H offered and cared for them just like they were her own. Emma was my friend and confidante, through good times and bad. I will cherish the memories we shared together. The last time I saw Emma was on her wedding day. Emma was always happy, but on that day; she was radiant, and so very very happy. I thank God for the opportunity to have shared that wonderful celebration of her marriage to Chris.
Chris, Mama Louise, and family, I just want you to know this world has been a better and brighter place because of your Emma. I pray that the Lord with grant each of you peace and comfort. I know she is in heaven busy “planning” for our homecoming!

It is sad to think that Emma will not be here to brighten up someone's day again because she could never go through a day without having not done that it was in her DNA. Heaven is having a party now and Emma is hosting it I am sure! I'm so sorry for her families loss. I was in ministry with Emma for four years and went overseas with her. I am so happy she found you Chris to share her life with these past years. I now know it was God's reward for her service to Him in her life. God keep you in His loving arms now. Jeaniece Peppers

Six days after Emma's departure from this world to her eternal home, I am still in a state of shock and disbelief. Like others, I was happy to see Emma again at our CHS Class of 1975 reunion, and get to meet Chris. I was excited about their return to Columbus.
Last Thursday, I was priviledged to see Emma & Chris again at the Chamber of Commerce luncheon at Golden Park, not knowing that this would be her last meal and that she would be gone within a few hours.
Our prayers are with Chris, Mrs. Thornton, and the family. Grief and celebration seem difficult together, yet that is what Emma's life demands.
To those that trust in God's grace, through his only Son; we will see Emma again, without ever having to say goodby.

It was not my intent to attend the Columbus High School 30th year reunion, but not for the persistent urging of my friend and our classmate, Deborah Gunn Toney, I would have missed a great reunion, and unknown to me, I too would have missed seeing a classmate for the last time. I am so glad that I was urged to attend. My sincerest sympathies are extended to all who knew and loved her. She was one of the first persons to greet me when I arrived at the picnic on Saturday afternoon. We chatted briefly- saw each other again at the dinner later that night - and that was it. You never know. Take Emma's advice and be in love with life!

To Emma's family, Please know that my prayers are with you at the sudden loss of your Emma. I also want you to know what a wonderful person she was. I first got to know her in 1987 through the Extension Service and we have been friends since. She was an inspiration to so many. I was blessed for having known her and I will miss her! May God bless you and be with you all in the coming days. Sincerely, Joan Williams.

I was shocked and at a loss for words when I heard of Emma's death. I was in my hometown of Cordele and my former boss called to give me the sad news. I was Emma's secretary at the Crisp Co. Extension Office when she came to work and worked with her for a little over two years. Emma was such a joy to be around. She brightened many of my days just by her enthusiasm for life and energetic spirit. She always told me, even in the last e-mail I received from her, that I raised her well in Extension and trained her right. She always called me Lulu and I will never forget that. She was not only a co-worker but a dear and trusted friend and confidante. I know Emma will continue to live on in the hearts of many, as she touched many lives. She is in a far better place than any of us are now and I know she is still enthusiastic, energetic and giving of her many talents. What an angel she was and will always be. I will miss her very much. My thoughts and prayers go out to Ms. Louise, Chris and all of the family. May the Lord comfort and strengthen you during this difficult time.

I was so sad to learn of Emma's death. She was a very dear friend to me. I met Emma when she lived and worked in Cordele. We became roommates during her time here and I have many happy memories of Emma. She was truly an angel. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family.

I am so saddened to hear of the death of Emma. She sold us our house in Acworth just weeks ago. Her spirit will live with us always. She was such a sweet, kind and loving soul. We are so happy that we had the privilege to have met her. God bless Chris and the rest of her family.
