Dear Family of Emma,
With great sadness I heard about Emma's tragic death. I had
the opportunity to work with Emma when she was with the Extension
Service. I have many fond memories of her and her magnetic
personality. Please know that many people all over the entire
area are grieving with you and share your loss. Please remain
focused on Jesus as the source of your strength. Emma left
a legacy with all Extension employees that she contacted;
I am sure as well with her clientele.

Since the first time I met Emma 15 years ago, she made me
feel so at home in the extended "Smith" family.
Fred and George always have had a close bond with all their
cousins, getting together with them on a consistent basis.
She was named after 2 of her Aunts, two great ladies, Emma
Wilson and Jean Alexander. Emma was a beautiful woman of God
- always striving to display the love of our Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ in a practical way to all she knew. Whether it
be having ladies teas at her home (always complete with gifts
for everyone she called "happies"), decorating with
such flair or taking in roommates from all over the world.
She always was concerned for you as a person and showed it.
We will miss her deeply, but we have been so enriched by being
a part of her life. She is singing praises to our Lord and
rejoicing in heaven with the angels. May our Lord comfort
this fine family in their loss with comfort and peace that
can only come from Him.
We love you

Dear Chis and Louise,
I was shocked and saddened when I heard of your loss of Emma.
I first met Emma back in the 70's at The Staight Gate community
church and we were in the TNT group (Teens & Twenties)
and would all get thogether for bible studies, outdoor activities
and other youthful stuff. I remember we all used to play the
hide and seek game of sardines. We would go swimming and boating
with Matt, Marie and Emma on Lake Oliver and she always looked
at the positive side of everything. She seemed to always be
cheerful and really loved the Lord.
With the Lords help and guidance, we will all pull though
and join Emma once again.
With love, Stephen

Ron and I worked closely with Emma in ministry for 3 years.
Emma was one of my best friends--I think she was many people's
best friend because that was the kind of person Emma was.
She always made us laugh. She loved practical jokes. We've
spent the past week remembering the fun and funny things that
Emma did. Emma was so very talented. She could turn anything
into a thing of beauty. She was great at making people feel
like "family". Her love for life was contagious!
Emma was always a lady. She was a beautiful person inside
and out. She made my children feel special and loved. She
was full of faith and she encouraged other people in theirs.
She was great at getting others to pursue their dreams. The
happiest I've ever seen Emma was the day she married Chris.
What a beautiful wedding with so much love poured into it!
She adored you Chris, and told me you were her very best friend.
She was so happy to be married and share life with you. She
loved Chris's children and grandchildren too and proudly showed
me scrapbooks with their pictures from her trips to S. Africa.
Her nephew, Ben, and her niece, Corrie were so special to
Emma. I remember her proudly showing me her little niece,
Emily's baby pictures. Oh, how she loved her family! I know
that each of you will miss her very much. The world is a better
place because Emma Jean was a part of it. We will all spend
the rest of our lives celebrating the beauty of the life of
Emma and all that being in her presence taught us! We love
her dearly and pray God's comforting presence and peace be
with each of you.

It is a great blessing that we had the opportunity to know
Emma as the Dean of the school of ministry. She cared about
us and about our walking in the destiny of God for us. She
loved our family like her own. She will be missed but she
is now at home rejoicing for a life well spent. Well done
good and faithful servant.

Emma...when I think of her I think of her bright smile and
positive attitude. I worked with Emma when she was with Fayette
Extension and I was next door with Clayton Extension. Emma
always looked for opportunities to help others. When my husband,
Bill and I built our home in Griffin in 1989 Emma came over
to help us paint. At lunch with my in-laws a child commented
that Emma had gotten paint in her hair...it was not paint,
of course, it was that beautiful, distinctive white streak
in her hair. Emma was a leader and although I have not kept
up with her in the past few years I always consider her a
friend. Many of Emma's former Extension colleagues share your
loss. I am but one of them who loved your Emma. Kathy Wages

When I think of Emma, I think of a dynamic, very gifted, very
special woman of God. She was the Proverbs 31 woman extrodinaire...full
of joy, wisdom and life,...the quintessential southern lady.
When I think of Emma, I get a good feeling..of everything
that is right in a person. The world and Body of Christ is
richer for her having been with us, and is poorer for her
having left. But I also know that she is rejoicing in a far
better place with her LORD. We will sorely miss her, but we
shall see her once again. It is our comfort for to be absent
from the Body is to be present with the Lord!

Dear Thornton Family, I did have the wonderful pleasure of
knowing Emma. The last time i saw her was in February at a
weekend scrapbooking retreat her amazing sister Marie planned.
Emma was a beautiful person inside and out. She lit up any
room when she entered. I know she had earned her wings numerous
times here on earth and will never be forgotten. I now see
Emma having passed through heaven's gates, singing in God's
choir, and wearing a beautiful long white gown walking barefooted
down heaven's streets of gold.
Emma, her family, and Nan you are all amazing and beautiful
people who's faith will get you through this.
I truly believe that heaven has been blessed to have Emma
enter the gates.
Get well soon Chris.
I love you Marie,

To Emma's family and friends,
I was blessed to meet and work with Emma through UGA Extension.
When she was in Fayette I was in Carroll. We spent many a
meeting together at Rock Eagle. Just thinking about Emma brings
back so many happy memories.
I remember the joy that radiated from Emma at her wedding.
We all had a great time sharing this special event with her
and Chris. The wedding was so....Emma.
She was always smiling. Her optimism and elegance will never
be forgotten. She was fun to be with. She truly cared and
people and would do anything to help someone.
She had a certain type of charisma that drew people to her.
Her generosity, quick wit and uplifting spirit made her a
friend to treasure.
I share your loss but also the blessing that she touched our
lives. God sends special people to make us aware of the goodness
in others, Emma was one of these people.

Dear family and friends of Emma - I was extremely saddened
to hear the news of Emma. I knew Emma while I served as County
Clerk in Fayette County 1988-1991. As a newcomer to the area,
she took me in and introduced me to Fayetteville and the surrounding
Atlanta area and got me engaged in community events. She was
always a ray of light, always smiling, cheerful, willing and
raring to go and take on any new challenge life brought before
her. We had lost contact over the years when I moved out of
the country, but I never forgot her. Please know my thoughts
and prayers are with each of you during this very difficult
time.
